MODIFICATIONS TO TRANSOM ON RALPH BROOKS G28

The transom extension was built on a U-shaped plywood flange bolted and ultimately epoxied to the original transom. The swim platform shelf is also plywood. The rest of the extension is Styrofoam cored with hand-laid fiberglass and West System epoxy. The hull surfaces were faired to match the existing lines of the boat. (Lots of filling and sanding.)

In addition to improving the appearance and utility of the boat, the swim platform is a significant safety feature. The G28 has very high freeboard, but the swim platform makes it so easy to climb back into the boat that I haven't had the swim ladder out of its storage space for years.
